How to sign up

Signing up is simple, you can sign up with Facebook or with your email address.

Sign-up with email
Visit www.tpo.com, enter your email address and press enter. On the next page simply enter your name, create a password, and that’s it!

Sign-up with Facebook
Visit www.tpo.com and click the Facebook button in the middle of the screen. On the following screen press ‘OK’ so that Facebook can share the relevant info with TPO.

How to post

Either click on a group and start typing in the box that says “Start a discussion” or click on home and you’ll see on your profile page a box that says “What’s going on?”.

How to delete your account

If you want to delete your profile, please go to //community.tpo.com/account/confirm_destroy and choose "Delete profile".

How do I block someone from seeing my profile or contacting me?

To block a user simply visit their profile page and look for the link called ‘block’, which is located at the top of the user’s profile, on the right hand-side of the page. After clicking the link you should see the text change from ‘block’ to ‘unblock’, this means you have successfully blocked that user.

Can I set up my own group?

Not at the moment, but if you’ve got a great idea for a new group please email community_support@tpo.com

How to report unacceptable behaviour

To report content or a person you believe is going against the guidelines, drop an email to community_support@tpo.com along with a link and a bit of detail and someone in the community team will take a look.

Privacy

Who can see my posts?

You can see your privacy settings by clicking ‘My Account’ and then ‘Settings’, or by clicking this link www.tpo.com/users/privacy_settings. By default your posts are set to ‘Public’, which means anyone who visits TPO will see your posts. You can change this using the drop-down, and then clicking ‘Update’.

Who can post on my wall?

You can decide who can post on your wall by clicking ‘My Account’ and then ‘Settings’, or by clicking this link www.tpo.com/users/privacy_settings. By default, anyone who is part of the TPO community can post on your wall.

How do I change my notifications?

It’s easy to change your notifactions, simply click this link, www.tpo.com/users/edit_settings or follow the instructions below.

  1. On the TPO website click on your profile picture, which is at the top of the page, on the right-hand side.
  2. Click ‘Settings’ from the drop-down menu that appears.
  3. In the next screen click on the words “Notification settings”

Once on the ‘Notification setting’ page, simply check or uncheck the boxes you want to change, and then press ‘Update my settings’ at the bottom of the page. If you ‘uncheck’ a box, you will no longer receive those notifications.

My cause isn’t listed, how do I get them on board?

How much of my bill goes to the charity of my choice?

10% of your monthly wireless service bill, exclusive of taxes and government fees.

How much of my donation goes to the charity?

We currently accept donations only for US and UK based charities.

For US based charities we accept donations in USD. For UK based charities we accept donations in GBP. You can donate even if you are based outside of the UK or US using your international card.

If you’re donating via the social network, we send the charity your donation minus the fees that the processing company charges us, which are:

  • If you donate to a US charity that’s 2.9%+30¢ per transaction
  • If you donate to a UK charity that's 1.9%+20p (domestic cards) or 2.9% + 20p (international cards) per transaction

Does TPO collect gift aid / Will my donation be tax exempt?

If you’re based in the US: Your donation is tax deductible only if you are donating to a US charity.
If you’re based in the UK: You’ll need to check the ‘gift aid’ box when you make a donation, and agree with the terms and conditions.
If you are based in any country except for the UK and US: You should consult your own tax advisors for the tax impact, if any, of your donation. TPO is unaware of your domestic ability to claim any tax benefit, and TPO will not be able to handle those claims.

Can I set up a regular donation to my charity through your site?

Not yet, but we’re working on it. If it’s something you’d love - lend your support to the idea in our Community software discussion group.

What is the maximum and minimum amount I can donate?

The minimum you can donate is $1 (or £1 to a UK charity), and the maximum you can donate is $100 (or £100). We’re working on accepting higher donations so watch this space!

When will my charity get my 10%/my donation?

At the most it would take 90 days for a charity to receive your donation, although it may be less. This is because we make a transfer to all charities every 90 days, so the exact length of time depends on how many days are left before the next transfer date. For example, if your donation fell mid-way between the next transfer date, it would take 45 days for a charity to receive your donation.

TPO Community is about bringing people and causes together; sharing ideas and stories about the things that they are passionate about.

It’s special because together we can raise billions for amazing causes, connect with others and be inspired by them.

This community is built on a foundation of friendliness, respect and trust.

We invite you to participate and leave your mark here, but we do have a few rules to make sure everyone can enjoy their experience.

We’ll all help to support and manage this community within these guidelines, along with the Terms and Conditions.

Respect

We’re a bunch of all-sorts and differences should be celebrated. It’s the simplest advice; treat others as you expect to be treated, and we’ll all get along just fine.

Be yourself, be truthful

We’re into truth and transparency, so we expect you to be truthful about your identity, affiliations and age. We expect each person to have just one account, multi account management may result in suspension of all related accounts.

Have good clean fun

We encourage banter, we adore banter. We’d be lost without memes. Just make sure that no one is unfairly the butt of the joke and you’re not hurting anyone.

Healthy debate, constructive criticism

We encourage everyone to be able voice their opinion, engage in healthy debate as critics help all of us expand our horizons. Be respectful of others, arrange your argument without attacking the person.

Boundaries and censorship

You need to be 13 years or older to join the community. With this in mind as we’re building a community for everyone, we expect people to be respectful of people of all ages and the pictures and content that is posted should reflect that mutual respect.

People will want to test the boundaries. However as we’re about raising billions for great causes – we don’t want to be spending our time being distracted from that. The final call on what is acceptable will be that of the Community Manager.

Spam

It’s just for sandwiches, we’d like to keep the community free from unsolicited messaging – no spamming others, thanks. This includes random links to websites, it’s really not necessary, so please refrain from popping promotional links in your posts and signatures.

We’re lovers, not fighters

We have a zero tolerance policy on harassment ("cyber bullying") of community members or staff members. This policy also extends to nuisance communications. Anyone who feels they are being bullied, or suspects bullying of another should immediately report this to a Community Manager. TPO may take legal action when appropriate.

Abuse of any kind will not be tolerated, including things like linking to malicious content with the intention to damage or disrupt another user's browser or computer or to compromise a user’s privacy.

We keep things tidy

Occasionally people will post personal information, say things that shouldn’t have been said etc, we’ll edit posts occasionally, where possible we’ll keep posts where they were.

In time in order to keep things orderly, we may move posts to another area if we feel they belong in another category.

When things are a little more serious, we’ll remove a post from view.

Keeping the peace

Ultimately, it falls to the Community Manager to keep the peace. It shouldn’t happen very often, but we will remove people who harass other people. Personal attacks, insults and persistent negativity won’t be tolerated.
