A beautiful lionfish swims in clear waters. Though gorgeous to our eyes, the lionfish are bad news for Caribbean marine ecosystems. They reproduce very fast (about every four days!) and are voracious predators. CARIBSAVE has partnered with local fisherfolk to tackle this invasive species. To protect the diversity of reef ecosystems, we are encouraging lionfish catch to control its population. It turns out lionfish are not only beautiful, they are also delicious! The Sustainable Development Goals #SDGs launched last Friday. Goal 14 is "To conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development" which will significantly impact our work. This goal is brave and bold, and we look forward to seeing big changes in our ability to conserve marine biodiversity.
