We are still overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support on Giving Tuesday. Stay tuned for a very big announcement from us next week. In the meantime, a tickler to make you all very, very proud of your support of the Camp Kesem mission. We are so grateful.
With the amazingness that was #GivingTuesday, we missed a few weeks here, but it's time to get back to our weekly student volunteer spotlight! This week the spotlight shines on one of Camp Kesem Berkeley's outreach coordinators, Lisa "Chip" Reilly. Here's what her program director, Giggles, wanted to share with you all about Chip's dedication to Camp Kesem:
"Chip got involved in Camp Kesem at the beginning of her freshman year, and has stayed VERY involved ever since! Chip has served as a counselor, Special Events Coordinator, Operations Coordinator, member of the admin team, and is currently in her final year at Berkeley as an outstanding Outreach Coordinator. Chip worked to kick off the first ever Glow in the Dark 5k at Camp Kesem Berkeley, which is now an annual tradition and very successful fundraiser. She works wonders with homesick campers, is passionate about creating an inclusive Camp Kesem community, and consistently shows her dedication and love for Camp Kesem through all her hard work and upbeat attitude!"
WOW! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of our incredible student leaders, Kesem alumni, camper families, friends, and supporters. #GivingTuesday was a HUGE success all-around. Final numbers are still coming in, but we couldn't wait to thank each and every one of you for the dedication and passion you put into raising awareness and funds to help support children through and beyond their parent's cancer and #GiveKidsKesem!
"You know, I always thought of cancer as this horrible thing that only destroyed lives. Camp Kesem shows you that good things still happen." -Camp Kesem Camper
#GivingTuesday is TOMORROW -- please share this post and help us spread the #GiveKidsKesem message!
"One of the campers said that being at Camp Kesem made him feel like his father was still around. If we can make someone feel like their family is still around when we are not actually their family, it says something about the family of Camp Kesem."
-Camp Kesem Counselor

Another Camp Kesem chapter founder, another beautiful quote! This one comes from Camp Kesem William & Mary founder "Mama" who is also now one of our National Program Directors! Please continue to share these with the college students in your life who may have interest in starting a new Camp Kesem chapter at their school. You can find the full details about the Kesem Chapter Expansion Campaign here:
New chapter applications are due by November 30th though (and should be started by the 15th!) so don't wait!
It's reunion season at Camp Kesem. And we love, love, love seeing photos of the renewed connections, the Kesem magic and the reminders about the importance of the Kesem mission. We particularly love this photo from our inaugural chapter's reunion today at Camp Kesem Stanford - where it all began. And how incredible it was to have so many alums and - surprise! - our leader and CEO Pocket enjoy in the fun!
“How do you describe something so perfect? Camp is fun. It gives both campers and counselors alike the chance to do something very important: to put aside life for a while and act like a kid. Camp is silly, emotional, rejuvenating and a million other things that words can hardly begin to describe. In short, camp is magic.” - Camp Kesem student volunteer #CKLove #KesemLove
Get pumped, Camp Kesem student leaders - we've got less than a month until our National Leadership Summit! To tide you over, we're sharing a sneak peek of this year's t-shirt design. Former camper turned Camp Kesem at Arizona State University student leader, Kristie "Petrie" Becker, created it in honor of our theme: "Back to the Future: Celebrating 15 Years of Kesem!"
Meet our featured volunteer college student leader of the week! Program Director Jazz had this to say about Catherine "Puzzles" Gannage:
"Meet Puzzles! Why is that her camp name? That is the true puzzle! As a veteran Camp Kesemer from Camp Kesem Stanford, she’ll be bringing all her CK experience to Camp Kesem at Brown University where she serves as founding Co-Director. You might find her traveling Europe with her family or reminiscing about the time she visited The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. Can't wait to see all the magic you'll help bring to CK at Brown!!! Wingardium Leviosa!"
